Hi,
Welcome to the October/ISDEF issue of Software Marketing
News, an independent voice for software developers.
An HTML version can be viewed at http://www.softwaremarketingresource.com/author-resource-newsletter46.html
.
Its seems the ground is shifting in the software
community and the topography may be changing. Some
really interesting new twists and spins make me wonder
what is in store for the industry. Some major players
are making changes while some of them may seem small
and not terribly significant you have to wonder what
the long term landscape will be like.
ISDEF - Russian Software Conference Overview
*****************************************************
I recently attended the ISDEF conference for software
developers in Moscow, Russia. The conference was nothing
like I had envisioned. If any western developers have
interest in working with Russian developers in some
capacity, they really ought to consider attending
the conference in 2005. The possibilities and potential
is really remarkable. And if you have not thought
about this in some way you ought to consider it as
there are great opportunities waiting to be explored!

CNET & Investments
******************************************************************
Protexis, a leader in hosted services
that helps software publishers grow their business,
announced that it has received a strategic investment
from CNET Networks. Protexis provides
flexible digital licensing solutions, supporting a
full range of licensing models. With CNET recently
moving to host software downloads, one has to wonder
how Protexis will be involved in the big picture and
how it will effect developers.

of Homeland Security's efforts to boost defenses against
possible attacks of all kinds. INEEL seeks a delicate
balance between encouraging key parts of the U.S.

any nefarious acts.

Search Engine News:
****************************************************
Overture - said it plans to enter five
new international markets in the coming months as
the Internet media company continues to broaden its
global reach. Beginning in the fourth quarter, Overture
will open in Brazil, Canada, China, Hong Kong, and
Taiwan.
Google - registered the domain name
Gbrowser.com. Another hint that Google might be working
on a Google browser.
Google AdSense - AdSense just added
four new languages: Chinese (simplified), Korean,
Polish, and Turkish.
Digital Signatures & eSellerate
*****************************************************
eSellerate took a big step in response to Microsoft's
recent release of Windows XP SP2. The new service
pack includes security functionality that brings up
an informational dialog every time a user launches
a file downloaded using Internet Explorer. This dialog
is designed to verify the digital signature for that
file. For unsigned files, this warning dialog denotes
that it is from an "unknown publisher." To help instill
consumer confidence in eSellerate's consumer products,
eSellerate is now digitally signing their EST files
upon affiliate download.
When the SP2 informational dialog displays, it will
show "eSellerate" as the publisher. While eSellerate
will be set as the default digital signature, this
signature can be overwritten if the developer chooses
to sign it with their own certificate.
